About Karina Coghlin

Growing up in various countries around the world, Karina has always been a maker and creator, soaking up the culture and landscapes of her surroundings. The vibrancy of the Mediterranean; the bucolic charm of the English countryside; and the energy of cities such as Berlin, Cologne and London. All have had an impact on her view of the world and approach to her artwork.

Karina works primarily in watercolour or gouache for her paintings as well as using graphic art techniques, exploring the versatility of this creative medium, which allows for playfulness and expanding new ideas.

Simplicity, minimalism and semi-abstraction are key components of her work, which she continues to experiment with, pushing the boundaries of these ideas within each piece.

Inspired by the uncomplicated shapes depicted in artworks from the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century and the floral works of Piet Mondrian and Henri Matisse, Karina merges many of these influences with her love of nature, and the inspiration she takes from her daily walks in the countryside near her home.

Karina currently lives in the East of England, with her partner Paul Coghlin, who is an award-winning fine art photographer.
